A trip to Kakolem Beach Goa

The smallest Indian state, perceived as a party destination by most, Goa has more to it. Goa flaunts its rich architectural history, colorful carnival, 160 km long coastline, and the 7 major rivers quite proudly. Nature has been fully kind to Goa while blessing it with beauty. The first few trips are usually swallowed by the booze and the parties. Then, you start to explore the state. Goa has only two districts- North Goa and South Goa. This time we decided to spend our four months in South Goa. My husband chose a small town, Canacona. We could not be happier. Canacona deserves a full article so I will leave the details to my next article. This article tries to explore a lesser-known beach Kakolem.

About Kakolem Beach

Kakolem Beach on Google Map

Also known as Tiger Beach, Kakolem beach is a ravishing and lust-green beauty known by few people. It is one of the most unexplored and secluded places. Unlike its South Goa peers (Palolem Beach, Patnem Beach, Agonda Beach, Cola Beach, etc.), Kakolem beach's unfrequented tracks have indeed not been closely explored.

How to reach?

Kakolem beach is about 54 km from the Goa International Airport(GOI) and about 60 Km from the state capital, Panjim.

About 8 km from the more known tourist destination Cabo De Rama Fort and about 16 km from widely known Palolem Beach in South Goa.

Till now, there is no public transport available for reaching there. You need to travel by using a private vehicle.

You can also try the sea route by hiring a motor boat.

Way to Kakolem Beach

The Kakolem Beach is in the Cola Village. You have to leave the main road(blue line) and follow the dotted line to reach the beach as shown below:

This dotted line is a small hill that you need to trek down. A little and beautiful adventure lies awaiting along this trail.

Parking and Eatery:

As you need to go down the trail on foot you need to park your vehicle. You can either park it near the tuck shop which is on the main road or at the parking lot. This small eatery sells tea, packaged drinking water(and chilled too), chips, and, bananas, etc.

If you want to park at the lot, you need to travel a patch which is quite rough, and taking your four-wheeler there might be quite a task. Here is a photo:

Way to the Beach

This is a little tricky part. The road is quite uneven and you have to transverse many stone stairs. The stairs are uneven and test some physical fitness. But, those imperfect stairs provide you the impeccable shots and enchanting aerial views of the sea. Here are some pictures:

There is also a waterfall This was such a small stream that it could not be captured in the photograph. Although I have read that during monsoons this waterfall cascades down and meets the sea.

--Strong wind started to flow and we trekked up in a hurry.  when we started to trek up to reach our vehicles. It was already drizzling when we reached the top. We had to take cover in the midway as it started to rain heavily. Mind you there are fewer stopovers between kakolem and Agonda.
